SUMMARY:A Life in Ruins
DESCRIPTION:This illustrated talk will cover discoveries in British and European archaeological sites as the subject has embraced more ecological and scientific approaches since the 1960s. \nThe speaker\,  Dr Andrew Jones B.Sc.\,D.Phil\, F.S.A.\, F.S.A Scot.\, has worked on material from many famous sites e.g. Viking Age York (Jorvik)\, prehistoric Scotland (Skara Brae) and Roman Italy (Pompeii). The aim of this work has been to add new data about the everyday lives\, economic activities and sometimes intimate details of ancient cultures. \nIn addition to academic research the speaker has been actively involved in improving the public understanding of archaeology working for the York Archaeological Trust\, and the Universities of York and Bradford. He is currently Chair of the Friends of the Chalk Tower at Flamborough Head and is researching the history and archaeology of the area hoping to bring new insights to the place the ancient geographer Claudius Ptolemy called ‘The Bay of Many Harbours’.
