The Real King Arthur

7th November 2022 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

About the talk:

For centuries, nobody has known whether King Arthur existed or is legend. But the problem can now be solved. Analysis of the earliest chronicles shows him as a warrior (not a king) in what is now southern Scotland, fighting battles against other Britons in the terrible volcanic winter of 536-7, and dying a hero’s death near Castlesteads on Hadrian’s Wall. After a millennium of mystery and doubts, the real Arthur can at last be presented to the world.

About the speaker:

Andrew Breeze (b. 1954) was educated in Kent and at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Married to a Yorkshirewoman and with six children, he has taught since 1987 at the University of Navarre, Pamplona. He has also published widely, the most recent of his books on early Britain being _British Battles 493-937: Mount Badon to Brunanburh_ (Anthem Press, 2020).
