From sailing cobles to modern speed boats, from rowing boats to ships with all mod cons, member George Parrott’s talk covered all Bridlington’s pleasure boats. He concentrated on the steam and diesel vessels giving cruises around the bay and beyond.
One photograph shown by George from the sailing coble era epitomised the popularity of Bridlington’s pleasure boats. The north and south piers were crowded and several cobles were literally stuffed to the gunnels with humanity all dressed in their finery.
George showed pictures of all the surprisingly large number of Bridlington’s paddle steamers and screw driven vessels giving their history and key features.
George recalled some accidents such as the crewman lost overboard in 1905 from the Paddle steamer Frenchman. He also personally remembers the foul ship’s tea he endured on the ST Yorkshireman not long after the war.
Augustinian members know from experience that you will get much better service today on the Yorkshire Belle. Why not book your cruise now?
