Christmas Evening 2024

The Bridlington Augustinians’ festive evening included enjoyable short recitations by members followed by a quiz. The compere for the evening was Scribe Garry Sunley who interspersed the proceedings with groan worthy Christmas cracker style jokes.

Carol French read a charming letter by Mark Twain to his daughter pretending to be Father Christmas. Ann Hudson recited “George and the Dragon” written by Weston and Lee, well known in music hall circles.

Judy Wilson read Alan Titchmarsh’s poem “A Modern Nativity” which questioned how we would receive such an unbelievable story today. Maureen Bell’s contribution was the atmospheric “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas.

After Gary Sunley had entertained with a Christmas poem by Pam Ayres, all members took part in a challenging quiz set by Prior Michelle Stephens.

The evening concluded with drinks and mince pies for all with plenty of chat and best wishes exchanged.
