The Countryside Explained
20th March 2017 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
An illustrated talk by Mr Chris Tomson
An insight into interpreting the landscape. Starting with the last ice age, we look at how the modern landscape has developed under the influence of man by studying aspects of geology, archaeology, woodland, forestry, farming, mining, quarrying and conservation. In addition historical events such as the plague, civil war, enclosures and the industrial revolution have all left indelible features in the landscape. This talk will illustrate some of these and explain the importance of conservation in a fast changing world including the development of landscape protection through national parks, etc.
