More Lost Buildings of Bridlington

The life stories of six lost buildings were the subject of Rick Hudson’s talk. The buildings were the Britannia Hotel, the Cock and Lion Inn, Fort Hall, Flat Top Farm, Stepney House, and “The Hollows”.

The first two were open to the public. The second pair were Georgian seaside villas built for the aristocracy. The last two were private houses meant to impress. Bro Rick used photographs, maps, censuses, paintings and press reports to bring to life their very different histories.

Bro Rick said if he could have saved just one of these properties it would be Flat Top Farm. It was built about 1775 so the Sykes family from Sledmere could visit in the Georgian social seasons and stay in a house with a view over Bridlington Bay.

It stood at the bend in Kingston Road and had all the hallmarks and elegant features of nationally renowned architect John Carr but was sadly demolished in 1966.

The Vote of Thanks was given by Bro David Moore.
